Daily Summary for 1/2/2026

Santa Rosa, NM to Emporia, KS

Big Rig Travels day began at 6:46 am MST. It is 46 degrees and clear and sun was rising at the Love’s near Santa Rosa, NM.  50 gallons of fuel for the Blue Comet as we continue our trip to Sterling, IL.  “Freaky Friday”  Road crew song played as we rolled out.  

Stream ended at 7:41 am near Cuervo, NM, resumed at 7:50 am near Tucumcari, NM.

Backroads start at 8:07 am as we exit on to US-54, then crossing old route 66 at 8:09 am. 

“Alright, welcome to Texas, now we are in central time zone” when 9:01 am turned to 10:01 am near Dalhart.  

BRS points out a train on the left at 10:07 am.

“Welcome to Dalhart, TX” at 10:39 am, narrow road due to road work.  “Wow, this is an obstacle course out here this morning.”

“Welcome to Oklahoma” at 11:33 am near Texhoma.

Love’s stop at 11:35 am for coffee.

Steve points out another train on the left side at 12:41 pm near Tyrone, OK.

Into Kansas at 12:41 pm near Liberal.  “Fourth state of the day.” We are now on US-54 now called the Yellow Brick Road.  

Stopped near Pratt, KS for his 30 minutes break at 3:20 pm at the Casey’s Truck Stop.  It is now 47 degrees and mostly cloudy.  Fresh coffee and an overcooked chicken sandwich were obtained.  Resumed driving at 3:54 pm.

Big Rig Steve officially done at the Kansas Turnpike service area near Emporia, KS at 6:38 pm.  It is now dark and 34 degrees.

Numbers: 518 miles to receiver. Plan is to stop short, near Davenport, IA and have a road crew meet up with LST. He will take a couple hours off before we need to get to delivery at 12:04 am. Will be doing a split.  We covered 563 miles rolling out of NM, through corners of TX and OK and into KS.  

Clocks: 1:18 hours on 11 hr, 2:35 hours on 14 hr, 22:48 hours on 70 hr.  Do not gain back hours tomorrow morning. 

No alarm clock ⏰ tomorrow.
