Howdy! We are back on the road this morning after the truck has some work done the last two days. They did the normal services and a few extra things. Once the truck was given the green light again, we went to Grantsville, Utah to drag out an empty trailer to take to our shipper in Clearfield, Utah. There, we did a drop and hook. Now we have made it to Winnemucca, Nevada where we have shutdown for the night due to the winter storm that currently has Interstate 80 closed at the California/Nevada border. Sure, we could have driven closer, but what is the point since once we got there truck parking would be difficult to find with the roads being closed! It makes sense to stay out of the chaos of that mess when we can just sit back a few hours away and have plenty of parking (for now). Even when they do open the roads back up, then comes the massive traffic jams of both cars and trucks all wanting to get over the mountain in both directions under hazardous conditions which leads to more accidents. Yup, we will just stay put for a bit. We don’t deliver until Saturday anyway, and the customer would much rather get their product late than not at all. This situation isn’t new to trucking customers or trucking companies – shutting down and staying safe is always the wisest decision.
When the storm passes, the snowplows finish clearing the roads, and they finally allow traffic through, then we will look at making our way across the Sierras. The mountains are beautiful, especially after a massive winter storm, so we will NOT live stream the trip over this time. Instead, we will hard record in wide view and upload later. This way you get a better view without any buffers or interruptions!
