Back in the truck…

Good evening Road Crew! I am back in the truck tonight but am waiting for details about our first trip of the year. Nothing will happen tonight except me resting up from a good few days off. I will put photos up later but for now they are still in the camera. So let me tell you what I have been doing the last few days…

I arrived at the Oakes Hotel at Niagara Falls in Ontario Canada. Getting into Canada was a big pain. Both my buddy and I were sent to the immigration department while they searched every bag in the car! They found it very hard to believe a trucker would be visiting Niagara Falls, or that my truck was parked for a few days! Finally we both got in and checked into the hotel. It was a dang nice room with one section having a couch, TV, phone, fireplace, etc then the other half had another TV, phone, beds, and tons of windows. The view was facing the falls, but the view was blocked by all the trees.

At the big Queens park just two blocks from the hotel on New Years Eve, they put on a free concert by Keith Urban and it was televised all over Canada. It was equivalent to Times Square… I chickened out because no way was I going to freeze out there! The winds were horrendous and bitter cold all day. I stayed in the room and peeked out the 14th floor observation deck. Earlier, we rode the incline railway, walked around the falls, and even walked behind the falls! Earlier we ate dinner in the Skylon Tower. Wow, nice views and great dinner and service, but you better be prepared to pay out the nose for it!!!

Yesterday we drove around to various areas including Fort George and Lake Ontario. The winds and dang cold temps froze the waves as they hit the rocks. Today we visited the Erie Canal n Lockport, New York and bummed around several small museums in that town. Another fort we visited Old Fort Niagara. That was pretty neat including a demonstration of how the men dressed and fired their muskets. Today we also walked around Goat Island which was pretty much covered totally in ice. How much ice? Take a look at the binoculars!!!

Crossing back into the United States was an even bigger pain. My buddy and I got questioned separately, and they searched the car a d drove it around back while we were being questioned. Again, they found it impossible that my buddy would drive to pick me up so we both could take a few days to visit Niagara Falls! Eventually we got back in America but not sure if it is worth crossing borders again! I just tried multiple times to upload a few teaser photos to the blog but it just will not behave! I will add a few in the morning…
