Daily Summary for 5/23/2025

Elk Grove Village, IL-Gary, IN-Belvidere, IL

Big Rig Travels Friday began at 12:27 pm CDT.  It is 60 degrees and mostly sunny.  First recording 2:25 hrs, second recording is 3:10 hrs.  We are leaving the shipper near Elk Grove Village, IL.  We are starting our trip to Gary, IN.  Status changed to “on time to delivery.”  “Beautiful day out here.”

Small Love’s stop for coffee at 12:35 pm. “This is a Love’s that probably should have been car only”

“OK let’s go, he’s moving. IL-83” as the truck in front of us, finally started moving.  “We should reach Gary by 2027 at this rate” as he made his way along in heavy traffic.

I-80 at 2:13 pm, “we are at the quarry now” as we were crossing on the tri-state tollway near Thorton, IL.

“Alright, welcome to Indiana” at 2:35 pm as we rolled under the archway sign greeting us back near Munster.

Recording ends at 2:52 pm as we near the yard to drop off the trailer, so another driver can make delivery tomorrow morning.

Recording begins leaving Gary, IN at 3:08 pm.  It is 59 degrees and clear skies.

Welcome back to Illinois at 3:25 pm.

Steve was working out details of the best route during rush hour back to HQ through Chicago as we were Bobtail Bob.  Steve announced 94 miles to go.

While on I-355, Steve advised, “80 miles still” at 4:06 pm.  “How can it be still 80 miles?”

“Elk Grove Village! We were here this morning!” at 4:47 pm on I-290.

Arrival for our traditional final Love’s coffee stop for the season near Hampshire, IL at 5:41 pm.  As we return to the Blue Comet, after getting coffee, it is evident we need a few days off. “Ow, ow, ow, OK” at 5:48 pm.

Steve announced backroads to HQ as we rolled onto US20.  “Take the backroads home.” 

“Ok, welcome to Belvidere” at 6:16 pm. Recording ends at 6:18 pm as we near HQ for our time off.  Scheduled to return to the road on Wednesday 5/28.
