Big Rig Steve officially ended the day at near Jackson, Georgia when the last free parking spot opened up at just the right time. Clocks stopped at 15:57 EST. No need to push today as delivery is not scheduled until Wednesday morning at 8:00 am in Kentucky.
Todays Title: Furniture in the roadway again
The broadcast day started 8:12 EST Smiths Station, AL where we had ended the day yesterday. It was a grey, cloudy morning start. We rolled out, back on to Hwy 280. Yes, more backroads again this morning. Big Rig Steve started with a story about Godfathers Pizza that was his favorite. But, no way was he going to spend what one slice and a drink totals up to nowadays.
Phenix City, AL at 8:34 EST, the sunshine was trying to pop out and illuminate the green, yes green grass along the highway. A Story of BRS time living in Selma, AL when Steve went with some buddys floating on the river below a dam. They did not float as far as they needed to get back to the vehicle due to the flow over the dam that day being shut down. They ended up rescued by a pontoon boat as it was getting dark.
“Welcome to Georgia” sign greeted the Blue Comet at 8:42 EST near Columbus, GA.
Big Rig Steve sent a shout out to salute all the military viewers: Past, Present, and Future, as we went past the statues on pillars along the “Medal of Honor Highway”.
Weston, GA 9:45 EST finally out of the hilly area and on to more level road travel.
Going through Dawson, GA at 10:00 EST BRS pointed out on the right the Piggly Wiggly store. Yes, something we do not run across except in the south east.
Oh no, not again! Yes, at 10:26 EST we had to dodge furniture in the road again. This time in Albany, Ga. BRT RC Moderator All Things Harbor (aka ATH, or otherwise know as ETH) a Georgia native, posted an image of the intercept on BRT Discord from the snowman cam of the chair in the roadway.
Arrived at the Albany, GA receiver at 10:38 EST. Big Rig Steve kept the stream going as we did not have an appointment. BRS checked in and found out we were the third load today that arrived without an appointment. Yes they would need to work us in when possible. The Crew chatted with Steve via BRT YT chat while we waited to be assigned to a loading dock door. A bag would have been handy for recycling all the aluminum cans rolling around this place.
Assigned to a door at the receiver and at 11:26 EST status bar on website changed to unloading. Receiver promptly unloaded the trailer. 12:06 EST status changed to trip completed. (Check out the website Trip Blog posted by Erick Miller to find out how heavy we had been).
Steve stopped the stream, sent the RC to get lunch while he worked on cleaning out the trailer and closing the doors for the short trip to next shipper. Yes, no lunch break for Big Rig Steve, we had another preloaded trip waiting.
Big Rig Travels back on the air broadcasting at 1:23 EST from the fuel stop in Albany, GA after completing the drop and hook at the nearby shipper. Status bar was now on time to delivery.
BRT RC member road shield designer Mark Verstappen posted on BRT YT chat his prediction for stopping point today of Jackson, GA. Congratulations Mark! Thank you for your work on the road shield signs.
At Cordele, GA, we rolled off the backroads of the last two days of travel, and onto beautiful, good old I-75 north. Yes, it was fun to be back on a big road again. Big Rig Steve commented that he was very happy with the broadcast signal that had been available on the backroads the last two days. We soon had the Blue Comet rolling, stretching out her legs again on the big road as we went passed the favorites in the south. The Cracker Barrel and Waffle House were both on opposite sides of I-75 exit and soon afterward the Loves at the next exit. We were making good time again.
Perry, GA 14:15 EST, the dark sky was ominous but as we continued there was no rain to be found. Blue Comet could use another free wash as Steve had pointed out all the pollen that was on the hood.
Near Bryon, GA Exit 144 at 14:58 EST we cruised by the Buc-ee’s travel stop on the right side of I-75. Yep, no big rigs allowed to stop there.
Big Rig Steve advised that he had recently purchased a fishing magnet (you will to search what that is on your own). He is looking forward to trying his luck using it this spring in the river back at HQ in Illinois.
I-475 was the ring road around Macon, GA. and at 15:25 EST we rolled back on to I-75 near Juliette, GA.
Shortly after, Steve went over numbers, the discussion turned to the sad, last day, tomorrow for the Chrysler assembly plant back in the city of the BRT headquarters. Yes, they were down to the last vehicles to complete today. Steve went over the new upcoming employment offerings coming to offset some of the local losses from the closing of the assembly plant.
Numbers for today: 373 mile 600 km to go, delivery on Wednesday morning. Yes, plenty of time this trip. We covered 241 miles 387 km today including delivery at receiver and drop and hook at shipper. Current Loves status for March should be Platinum as we were within 21 gallons yesterday. February status has been at Diamond all month.
Clocks: 5:23 hour on the 11 hour, 5:34 on the 14 hour, 10:31 on the 70 hour. We gain back 2:18 hours tomorrow. Did not address eight day running totals today.
No alarm clock tomorrow morning. We will roll around Atlanta then through Chattanooga ,TN tomorrow on Big Rig Travels.
