Big Rig Steve safely parked at 12:33 MST in Big Springs, NE (yes, the Flying Hook truck stop with large cinnamon rolls) for the night. Originally stopping for the day to evaluate which direction to continue, west or south, in the morning. He was hoping to decide as I-76 splits off I-80 going towards Denver, just beyond this exit and Colorado starts shortly after. Late afternoon decision was made to go to Denver in the morning instead of continuing west on I-80 towards Cheyenne, WY.
BRS started broadcasting at 8:44 CST hosting a watch party while the decisions on travel for the day were being evaluated.
BRS had some old tortillas that were thrown like frisbees. Steve is pretty accurate at tossing them to feed the birds that had been being watched by the BRT road crew. It did not take long for them to be eaten up. Steve remembered the time that a squirrel had stolen half of his cucumber .
BRS rolled out of North Platte 12:16 CST today. We crossed the mountain time zone near Sutherland, NE gaining an hour as the time returned to 11:45 on the telemetry display.
We rolled through Ogallala, NE gateway to Nebraska’s playground on the Platte River by the dam creating Lake McConaughy reservoir at 12:07 MST.
BRS at 12:24 MST posed a question about stopping in Big Springs and that is exactly what we did. Tomorrow morning we roll to Denver, tune in to see what happens.
Numbers for today 73 miles 117 km covered which included the crossing into mountain time zone. Clocks: 16 hours remaining on the 70 hour.
