Daily Summary for 5/6/2024

Sloppy Day

Big Rig Steve officially done at 19:19 CDT safely parked near North Lake, Illinois at the AF Truck Center.  Sunset was visible as BRS summarized the day and went over the numbers.

Big Rig Travels broadcast day began at 10:19 CDT at the Petro at Effingham, IL on a dirt lot near where the old Blue Beacon truck wash used to be.  BRS was dragging his feet as he had plenty of time before reaching the receiver as we could not arrive early.  BRS was singing about a rainy, gray start to the day.  BRS said “Sloppy Day”.  Fresh coffee was purchased at the Petro.  Continuing our trip to Melrose Park, IL, he was broadcasting in 1080p as we rolled out onto I-57 north.  BRS advised, “all this rain is good for the heat of the summer. Hope you had a good weekend.”  BRS pointed out a bobtail pulled over.  Soon after he stated Blue Comet “sounds like a rocket engine roar.”  Then, it was time for the coffee test, “not bad…at least its not like elephant pee.”

Near Tolono, IL at 11:36 CDT, BRS makes a pitstop at a rest area to read messages of a possible next trip, “Yeah buddy!  Got a next trip! And time to do it and all that mess! Not really a place I want to go, but it’s miles.”

Exiting off I-57 at 14:04 CDT, near Harvey, IL, we continued north on I-294.

Near Alsip, IL a BRT trip landmark water tower is visible at 14:10 CDT.  Traffic slowdown experienced at 14:21 CDT, BRS notes all the drivers making poor decisions and even notes “one wiggle wagon driving on the shoulder.”

Upon arrival at the receiver near Melrose Park, IL a line to wait just to get entered into the gate at 15:15 CDT.  Entered into staging to wait for live unloading.  Upon leaving the receiver, prior to the checkout gate, Tyler and Gary  flagged down BigRigSteve and exclaimed that they followed Steve on Youtube.  BRS yelled “Merry Christmas” and dug out some medallions.  BRS said “How cool is that?”

As we exited the receiver at 18:55 CDT, a big rig parked out on the roadway made it difficult for BRS to get out of customer property and as usual Steve rolled slow and steady and snaked his way out.  As we were making out way to find parking, at 19:06 CDT, BRS advised the details of getting the gib ordered for our future tower cam.  It was a bit of a process.
