Daily Summary for 12/2/2024
A Long First Day
Big Rig Travels broadcast day began at 12:21 pm CST at HQ in Belvidere, Illinois. It was 20 degrees and overcast. Starting our trip to Gary, Indiana to pick up a preloaded trailer that we need to deliver this evening in Findlay, Ohio.
Steve advised he had been testing the broadcast equipment and that we have multiple trips lined up, even though a rough start this morning, “always a hassle to get out of the house.” Steve also advised that we have two months of food along with us, even though we don’t know how long we will be out this time. He prepared 8 pounds of corned beef, 7 pounds of pot roast, 1 turkey, and then 10 pounds fajita mix.
I-290 at 1:24 pm near Itasca, IL, broadcast camera falls off the mounting tape and window. Steve eventually pulls over to fix the issue and it happens again a few minutes later. Steve “I don’t have time to play with this.” We had a nice view of the upper portion of the Blue Comet.
Arrival at the shipper at 2:27 pm near Gary, IN. Broadcast resumes at 2:56 pm, we have our preloaded trailer, camera is back in the proper position.
Arrival near Findlay, OH at 8:26 pm EST on time to check in at the receiver for our 8:30 appointment.
Watch party starts at Steve answers questions about his time off and offers intel into our next trip. He is locked into a dock door at 9:30 pm. Steve takes the time to organize inside the Blue Comet and uncovers his bed as things find their rightful place. Watch party continued through the night.
Numbers: no numbers were discussed. We covered about 347 miles rolling out of Illinois, through Indiana and into Ohio.
Clocks: No clocks, we did start the day with a fresh 70 hour clock.
