Daily Summary for 1/10/2025
Storm Watch Truck Driving
Big Rig Travels broadcast day began at 6:26 am CST outside of the Blue Beacon truck wash near Pontoon Beach, Illinois. It is dark, 27 degrees and snowing. Steve had spent the night at the Flying J, advised they had not done any snow removal overnight and took him 30 minutes to get out of that mess. He also did not sleep well as he worried about getting up to an early alarm clock. We are starting our trip to the shipper near Columbia, MO.
I-270 crossing the Mississippi River at 6:41 am, welcome to Missouri.
I-70 crossing the Missouri River at 7:10 am near St Charles, MO.
Stopped at a rest area at 7:55 am near Wright City, MO to remove ice buildup on the Blue Comets windshield and wipers. BRS said, “and in this mess that’s what you got to do sometimes, is pull over and clean your wipers, much, much better.”
Love’s stop for coffee near New Florence, MO at 8:25 am.
Arrival at shipper at 9:43 am. BRS says, “Man, I don’t want to go in that mess. Probably never get out.” We back up off the unplowed road and then check in at 9:56 am.
In the dock door at 10:08 am, loading complete at 11:22 am. Status changed to “on time to delivery”. Starting our trip to Union City, GA. As we roll our, Steve notes that according to his calculations we are heavy in the front and need a CAT scale.
Stopped at the Petro near Kingdom City, MO to check our mass-weight. We were 400 pounds over on the drives. Steve gets the approval from the bosses to go back to the shipper to have them rework the load at 12:30 pm.
Arrival back at shipper at 1:01 pm. Leaving the shipper at 2:06 pm and back on to the CAT scale to reweigh at the same Petro at 2:39 pm. We are 100% legal and even have room for fuel now.
Love’s fuel and coffee at 3:12 pm near New Florence, MO. While fueling the stream dropped at 3:18 pm and resumed at 3:26 pm.
Downtown St Louis was visible at 4:46 pm.
Crossing over the Mississippi River at 4:52 pm, welcome back to Illinois.
Big Rig Steve officially done at 5:04 pm safely parked the Pilot near East St Louis, IL.
Numbers: 563 miles to receiver which is a drop whenever we get there prior to Sunday end of day. We covered 315 miles rolling out of Illinois, into and out of Missouri and back into Illinois including two visits to the shipper. Steve had requested the extra mileage created by having to go back to get the load reworked. 8 day summary 1578 miles.
Clocks: 3:40 hours on 11 hr, 2:27 hours on 14 hr, 27:45 hours on 70 hr. Do not gain back hours tomorrow morning.
No alarm clock ⏰ tomorrow.
