Daily Summary for 10/5/2024

Little mosey towards the truck wash

Big Rig Steve officially done at 12:49 pm EDT safely parked near Columbia, South Carolina at the Flying J.

Big Rig Travels broadcast day began at 9:34 am near Greer, SC at the QT.  It was 71 and sunny.  BRS advises that he has updated the website and career mileage (2,056,163 miles) last night and the 70 hour clock (68:20 hours).  He stops to get some coffee before heading out on SC-101 to the southeast.

He reports that we are taking some backroads and see some of the hurricane damage.  He reports that Asheville, NC is about 1 hr north and all hotels around Greer were full.  The hotel he stayed at reserves several rooms specifically for truckers that have broken down at a reduced rate, so he was able to find a place.  He advises that there is not much freight leaving the area, but there is more coming into the area for hurricane relief.  BRS also notes that on September 30, by road crew using BRT amazon link, he reached the 2nd level of bonus and earned enough to support starlink for two months.

At 10:12 am, near Woodruff, SC, turned onto SC 146.  10 minutes later he turns onto I-26 south at Waldrop Crossroads, SC.

Tune in at 10:25 am to hear some of Steve’s original songs.

BRS is ready to get home, he was hoping to be home around today, but that isn’t happening yet.  He does have an appointment on 10/10/24, but maybe rescheduling that as well.

U-turn needed on I-26 to get to I-20 E, as exit was closed on the south side.

Arrived at the Blue Beacon in Columbia, SC at 11:50 am.  Line is not too long, four trucks ahead of us.  He reiterates the recall Blue Comet had which was a misalignment of the rocker arms with them getting divots in them.  The coolant leak was found at the back of the engine area with a cracked solid line, only leaking when under pressure.  Both are fixed now.

12:38 pm, Blue Comet are into the wash.

Once the wash done, headed across the street to the Flying J.  Once again it was “bobtail, bobtail…that’s reserved, that’s reserved.”
