December is…

Good evening everyone.  We have arrived in Springfield,  Missouri but we do not deliver until Thursday late afternoon.  We are trying to gain back some hours.

Special Announcement!  We had  Road Crew member from Charleston,  West Virginia make a donation of $500.00 which pays for an entire month of broadcasting for BigRigTravels!  I would give this person’s name but I respect their privacy.  If they want to be publicly known,  they will let you know in the blog comments I’m sure. A very special thanks for the contribution.  Many,  many thanks!!  December’s broadcasts are dedicated to you Charleston, West Virginia!

You could call this route The Highway of the Simpsons. IL/MO Springfield’s.

The (TV) Simpsons are stupid & no ideal of American family values.

Unless you mean some other family of that name.

I’d rather see citizens shoot for the Walton’s ideals

Texas mom and dad – Today, it is a rarity, to find a family, such as the Waltons, with the family, and personal values, which they had, back, in the 30’s, and 40’s. Yet, there are some, like myself, who were raised, on a farm, and taught, by my family, those same values. I am now retired, from gainful living, but, still retain, those same, values. Merry Christmas, to you, and yours, also, to every Crew Member, reading, this blog.

Thanks for your generous Christmas spirit, anonymous viewer.
Steve will have this memory long after the $ has evaporated into the monthly costs, he will still be smiling at the thought of your kindness. So will we.

It’s always been that way. TV tries its best to cover up the realities of family unity. I myself did not grow up in a Waltons type family nor did my brothers and sisters. As we got older, it only got more worse and now with the current thinking in this world I go back to an essay mom wrote in college back in the sixties about how family unity has become disjointed and the nucleus of the family structure has all but collapsed. If you grew up in a family who was strongly knit and accepted you for who you were regardless of sexual preference, career choices, and overall choices as an adult.. You are very lucky because there is this cloak where your family tells you and teaches you this is how it is until you get out of the house only to find out it all gets thrown out the window by puberty and you really get to find out who your family really is.

What, a wonderful thing, to do, especially, at this time, of year! Such, a generous person, Steve, has honored you, and us, with such a wonderful offering. May the good Lord, continue to bless him, and, all the Road Crew, as well as you, Steve.

I debated on saying that I’m the guy that donated the $500.00. It’s rear that I’ll get involved in a chat room or any back and forth. I’m telling you now cause I see Steve as an ambassador for what’s good about the USA. I ran across Steve’s site I think around 2008 or 2009. With his wok ethic and honesty, he is an example of who we really are. Good nature hard working people that want only the best for people around the world. I thought it was time to give back a little of what he gives us everyday! Thanks Steve for what you do!!

      We’re proud of him, too.
      Virtual handshake to you, sir.

Its not just your $, its the gift of your words, and those words reveal who you are, too.
I’m always cheered to meet a man or woman who has survived the violent onslaught that has tried to replace common decency in our country towards each other and in our very soul, –and so works at tearing unity into selfish little prideful ragged pieces named “me, me, me!” and whose only anthem is an ungrateful, constant “wahhhaaaa waa!”

    • tomas seman - December 8, 2017 at 2:49 am Reply

Perfectly written Robert. I think same way. BigRigSteve is really ambassador of best american values. US is not about luxury and “Vegas style” abject entertainment (i dont mean Simpsons, by the way Homer and Marge, for 27 years, they have allways been faithfull eachother – thats great family value imho) but about hard work of ordinary people. Its like in the Super Bowl commercials (Chrysler,RAM) with Clint Eastwood, Eminem and Farmer;-) I like those ads!
Thank you Robert for your words and BRT support!
      Greetings from mid-Europe.

You are a bit of a fanatic and you sure do ruin the fun of this site. You preach kindness and acceptance and love, but sure can dish out the hate and disgust for what you don’t agree with. Thank you for being so cold and unwelcoming to folks that, unlike you, didn’t have the benefit of a high and mighty perfect upbringing. Some of us are still good wholesome people even if we don’t think exactly the way you believe we all should.

        • Texas mom and dad - December 7, 2017 at 6:10 pm Reply

Even tho I think I know who you are,….
I have never said how you or any one else “should think”.
I simply have an OPINION, same as you, and others.
Steve says my opinion is just as welcome as anyone else’s here.
Try to have a happy day anyway, or be grumpy if you want to.
          Either choice doesn’t affect me.

          • Just as American as You - December 7, 2017 at 6:46 pm

My family was more like the Simpsons (or perhaps the family on “Roseanne”) than the Waltons. Growing up, my father made it clear to me that I was an accidental and unwanted child. I was left to figure out much of life all on my own. My brother and I fought a lot, though never anything too severe. My mother lacked a nurturing instinct, though I do credit her for trying to raise us “right” – At least by what she believed to be right and good. I managed to grow up to be a pretty normal, functional, and importantly, decent human being. Your values should not be considered superior over the values others were raised with simply because they are different.

My choices in life may not affect you, but your words can hurt others. Please just think a bit more before you spout off that something you don’t understand is “stupid.” The Simpson’s may not have been your ideal of American values, but for some of us, it was very close to home and was all we had to work with in our little chunk of America.

          • Texas mom and dad - December 7, 2017 at 7:50 pm

Who said you or anyone else is NOT American???
Why attack me on something only in your own mind?
You are working off a lot of suppositions here.
You know nothing about my family and how I was raised.
Just because another blogger suggested I was raised “perfectly”.
All you guys who don’t like the opinions of others sure do spout your own opinions in highly judgmental ways.

I Read this yesterday, refrained from commenting. Texas mom and / or dad comments got addressed because they had to state their opinion of their preference to The Waltons when somebody stated that I-44 could be “The Highway Of The Simpsons”. Texas mom and / or dad seems to have misunderstood a simple comment based on the of a TV series instead for an opinion believing the people who live near the highway as a bunch of “Simpsons”.

But geographic locations embrace TV series all the time. Minneapolis St. Paul has a statue of Mary Tyler Moore. Chicago has a statue of The Bob Newhart Show. Metropolis is “The Home Of Superman”. It won’t be long before Raytown, Missouri is considered the official home of “Mama’s Family” and “The Carol Burnett Show”. It shouldn’t bother anybody for I-55 & I-44 from Springfield to Springfield to be “The Highway Of The Simpsons”. and it certainly should not trigger anybody into complaining about people complaining about abuse in a workplace. I will only say that the 1930s and 1940s had many problems then as today does now.

I appreciate these recordings and the hard work kindly provided by Steve. I also enjoy his bickering with GPS Lady and also because I do not like to use GPS. Before traveling I was delighted that Steve’s route (I-44) is the same route that I needed to take a couple of weeks later. It was beneficial since I have never driven on that route before. I will always appreciate what he does.

Unfortunately the Blog Banter and the Chat Chatter has intimidated me. Ironically, even though Big Rig Travels has expanded into Side Tracks of Segways and Drones, The videos and the channel(s) have been gradually decreasing in quality. Because If those types of attitudes, beliefs, and opinions carries over to the videos themselves, I will have to stop watching, unsubscribe, and try to forget everything about Big Rig Travels.

“Remember years ago when people were more like The Waltons?”

Remember years ago when the videos were 110% professional?

    • BigRigSteve - December 8, 2017 at 10:55 am Reply

Thanks for the comment. Please explain the quality degradation to the videos please. I cannot improve video or content quality if exact problems are not mentioned. I cannot broadcast in higher resolution without increasing bandwidth consumption therefore increasing buffering.

    • BigRigSteve - December 8, 2017 at 10:59 am Reply

If you are expecting me to provide 4k resolution broadcasts complete with graphics and music, I will never have the time, finances or equipment required. Brt provides a raw, unedited true real life view of a truckers day….not a scripted, edited, weeks delayed platform like fake tv reality shows.

… based on the *setting* of a TV series. 😳

Steve has lots & lots of excellent photos on his website. He is right to be proud of it. The blog is only a tiny part of,his excellent quality website.
You attack my opinions & add your own insults as if they are fact. I DO NOT think people who live along that mentioned hwy as a bunch of Simpson’s.. That’s YOUR words, not mine.

  17. T.J. - December 8, 2017 at 2:04 pm Reply

    Thank you for reply.

I was not pressuring you into enhancing the video and stream.

I am concerned about your website and wondering if BRT Videos will turn into this website.

I check the website to see when a new trip has been scheduled.

Sometimes you might have updated in a comment of a blog post.

But when I check the blog post I find angry or otherwise intimidating contents. I try my best to stay out of any discussion. I will have to remember to check the Widgets instead of looking at the blog.

I wonder how long it takes before the tone of the videos and the blog are the same which makes the videos not as professional. I have only subscribed since December 2015 and so perhaps it was unfair of me to compare the quality of your older videos on You Tube with the recent ones. Before that, (I think) … Your video library and your live streams were separate. I have never watched your Live Streams (on You Stream or whatever) so I was comparing your new combined format with your separate format. It looks like I was wrong or inaccurate. But I was still wondering since reading the blog makes me nervous. It is not nice to know every thought of yours as well as others.

I am not nervous about your presentation Real Live Without Reality TV … if I had the time I would ask you more questions about what is like to be a truck driver. I usually miss your live streams and when I watch your playback … in every video you mention your website …. and here I am … …

I am just going to have to email if I have a question.

Hey guys. Keep calm and mash it! This is real slow TV channel. Its about traveling, trucking, live streaming. Steve make it for our fun. BRT is not social network! Its only community of people, who likes traveling US live with Steve. What another you expected? Its unique channel, and im glad for that. Of course, its about money too. Its not cheap stream live 5 or 6 hours videos every day. Please, people, enjoy the ride through beautifull America, or enjoy Steve’s plentiful archive (like me::). This channel is not about chat or reactions to Steves blogs!!! Its about pure driving-trucking-traveling 😉 Keep going Steve & Mash it!!

For those who don’t know what Steve has accomplished in his broadcasting time.
He has touched the lives of many people, and continues to do so.
    Have a look.
Not everybody gets to be on the classroom view cams. You know the requirements? Be clean, be decent, and be interesting.—Webcam-Feeds-Classroom-Viewing-2959452

He’s had letters from top people in other countries. Who had a childhood once and a trucking dad
they got to ride with a few summers. And they sit in their offices doing official business, and sometimes take a break and watch Steve’s travels for a few minutes, remembering a beautiful day far distant.

Once when he went to show his credit card to make a purchase at a store, a woman laughed and said, “I know you, BigRigSteve, I rode with you for months while I recuperated in a hospital bed.”

I tell you these few things so you will not think because you daily enjoy his website, that you have any right to complain or “worry” about his website. He did this ALL himself, you weren’t here to give him advice. He has made things work that “experts” have said won’t work. ha. — most of you have no idea what it takes to run a Website and broadcast from a moving studio.
    And he does it FREE.
Before it closes for the day, I’m going to bring this wildly veering blog conversation back around once again to what Steve wanted it to be. Know that he appreciates even coffee-size donation and the $500 Christmas one from Robert brought him a lot of joy and the feeling of someone along side. And he wanted all of you to know about Robert and his generosity.

There is also a woman — she wouldn’t want me to say her name — but she has faithfully sent monthly donations since,– I don’t know,– 2009, or so. The rest is Steve’s $ that allows us to view his travels.
Thank you to all of you who support him and let him know by your ENCOURAGING words.
I think Robert kicked off a great Christmas feeling for Steve.

We’re his parents and naturally proud of him, (his mom is not really a cat, people, its just a joke) but heck, we didn’t know he could do all this stuff either, or ever dream that he’d have the impact he has had on the world, which is made up of individual people. (all the while having fun).
Well, that’s the way to do it! Steve is original that’s for sure. And he has a knack for enjoying the good and overlooking the unpleasant.
Merry Christmas, those who enjoy the website, as Steve intends you to.
Attention back to Robert, that was great, great support for Steve. thank you
