Daily Summary for 4/3/2025

New Bern, NC to Richmond, VA

Big Rig Travels Thursday began at 8:28 am EDT.  It was 71 degrees and overcast at the Speedway near New Bern, NC.  We are continuing our trip to the shipper near Edenton, NC.

Backroads today, “Love all these pine trees, lots of lumber here.”

Approach single lane traffic at 8:51 am due to tree trimming crews and then Steve notes the color of purple on the mystery trees.  “All the purple, love that.”

Future I-87 as we were on US17.

“Welcome to Windsor, founded in 1768” at 9:44 am.

Recording ends as we arrive at the shipper, “here we are” at 10:16 am near Edenton, NC.

Recording resumes at 11:16 am.  It was 75 degrees and partly cloudy.  Status changed to “on time to delivery” leaving the shipper to start our trip to Richmond, VA to drop the trailer for another driver as we were having battery issues with the Blue Comet and will need to go into the shop when we get there.

“Beautiful backroads” at 11:48 am.  “I tell you what…North Carolina is so beautiful” as we pass through Hobbsville, NC.  A short time later, Steve begins talking about how he likes history now, but not so much when he was a young adult.

Welcome to Virginia at 12:10 pm near Suffolk.  We stop at the Speedway for coffee at 12:23 pm.

Steve spots an AJ frog statue at 12:55 pm, “cool beans this must be AJ’s home town.”

Love’s stop near Disputanta, VA at 1:43 pm.  “Alright, let’s fill up all of our tanks.”  A window wash occurs on the Blue Comet shortly after.  “Ok, now let’s go, 30 miles away from the shop.”  “We have battery issues” at 2:04 pm.

We exit off of I-295 near Henrico, VA onto VA895 into Richmond at 2:34 pm.

We stop in line for a toll booth at 2:38 pm waiting on a pickup truck in front of us.  “Putting quarters in, one by one by one.”

Recording ends, Steve will be dropping the trailer in the yard for another driver to take onto Lancaster, PA.  It is learned from Erick’s trip blog that we had a load of roasted peanuts.

Steve posts on Saturday (4/5) that all four BC truck batteries were changed and now was waiting on a next trip, but the freight is slow here for the weekend, so will get a 34 hour restart and a fresh 70 hours.  Spending the weekend at the Sheetz in Richmond, VA.
