Daily Summary for 2/17/2024

Big Rig Steve officially done for the day at 16:51 CST safely parked at Sapp Brothers, Elm Creek, Nebraska.  Short watch party started after the clocks were stopped.  Road Crew meet up occured at 18:29 CST, road crew Scott who brought a couple oranges for BRS.

Title: Many broke down trucks today

Big Rig Travels broadcast day began at 7:42 MST at Sinclair, Wyoming.  Stinker Travel Plaza.  Fresh coffee was acquired before we left. BRS noted that “truck ran all night, low was to be 0, it turned out to be -11.” “I think we did good to stop when we did.”  Reports were bad in both directions last evening. 

Back out onto I-80 east at 7:56 MST with cold bright sunshine.  BRS described what sun dogs look like.  He also said road was half-decent.

“Black ice black ice” 8:21 MST near Walcott, WY.  Winter wonderland shortly after that.

Climbing up Elk Mountain at 8:27 MST. BRS points out a broken down big rig at 8:38 MST and another one at 8:40 MST. 

BRS said “we’re slipping, we’re slipping. Yuck” at 8:43 MST.  Another big truck on the side of the road at 9:02 MST near Rock RIver, WY.  Another one at 9:23 MST near Laramie, WY.  “A lot of broke down trucks today.”  BRS stated why we do our truck service when we do it, to avoid days like this.  He then advised his next service will be mid-April.

Love’s at Laramie, WY for a coffee stop at 9:45 MST while we waited in line to get through the fuel island, BRS had a public service announcement.  This would be worth playing back (9:52) to get this information.

A vehicle in the ditch was pointed out by BRS at 10:22 MST on the steep hill east of Laramie, WY.  Another big rig truck at 10:24 MST broken down, then a big rig has a close call crossing into the Blue Comet’s lane.

BRS points out Mark V’s favorite road “Happy Jack Road” at 10:30 MST, 8,560 feet elevation.

Rolling through Cheyenne, WY at 11:05 MST.

Welcome to Nebraska at 11:46 MST.

Near the Bushnell, NE exit, we passed a broken down big rig, oddly enough, that was the same exit we sat at getting our tire changed on the earlier trip west.

Rolled through Sidney, NE at 12:41 MST.  Crossed back into central time zone at 15:04 CST prior to Sutherland, NE.

Numbers:  638 miles 1026 km to receiver.  We covered  449 miles 722 km rolling out Wyoming and into Nebraska.

Clocks: 3:23 hours on 11 hr,  5:15 hours on 14 hr,  6:41 hours on 70 hr.  Gain back 8:13 hours tomorrow morning.  We were less than 20 minutes away from our 30 minute mandatory break, so instead we shut down to save the 30 minutes for another day.
