Daily Summary for 12/29/2023

Big Rig Steve officially done for the day at 17:13 MST safely parked at the Marathon in Cortez, Colorado.

Title: Backroads of Utah

Big Rig Travels broadcast day began at 8:31 MST at the Love’s near Salt Lake City, UT.  Rolled back onto I-80 east to I-15 south.

Stopped at Love’s for coffee at 9:44 MST near Springville, UT.

Back onto I-15 south, soon after onto smaller roads, as we then exit at 10:01 MST near Spanish Fork, UT onto US 6.

BRS spots a train on the right, down in the canyon at 10:23 MST.

Mass/weigh station stop near Helper, UT at 11:17 MST.  No issues.

BRS points out a field of sheep with “fuzzy coats” on near Price, UT at 11:27 MST.

Arrive at the Love’s near Green River, UT (not to be confused with Green River, WY) at 12:26 MST where we request fuel and we take our 30 minute break while waiting for authorization.  Finally get authorized for 65 gallons.

Break completed at 13:10 MST, BRS decided to give us a tour through the downtown, stopped for a photo op with Dino the Dinosaur with the Blue Comet at the Sinclair station.  Continued through town to return to I-70 east.  

We exit I-70 at 13:45 to head south on US 191, which ends our big roads for the day as we are back onto the backroads again near Thompson Springs, UT.  

Crossing the Colorado River at 14: 14 MST, just prior to going into Moab, UT.

BRS points out the hole in the rock at 14:39 MST. 

We stopped for a field trip hike near La Sal, UT at 14:51 MST up to the Wilson Arch.  We were totally dependent on Starlink connection.

BRS rolled into the Maverick truck stop near Monticello, UT at 15:41 MST to determine where the next mass/weigh station was and picked up fresh coffee and a burrito.  We continue now on US 491, a quick pass through the scale with no issues.  BRS noted that it seems like we’ve had every scale today.

Welcome to Colorado at 16:14 MST near Dove Creek.

Numbers:  884 miles 1422 km to receiver.  We covered 364 miles 585 km rolling through Utah and into Colorado in beautiful territory. We reached Love’s Platinum status today for January.  We are 423 to Diamond.

Clocks: 3:48 hours on 11 hr,  4:37 hours on 14 hr,  7:49 hours on 70 hr.  Gain back 10:20 hours tomorrow morning.
