Daily Summary for 1/23/2024

Big Rig Steve officially done for the day at 16:28 CST safely parked near Aurora, Illinois.

Title: Beyond our Control

Big Rig Travels broadcast day began at 9:04 CST in Northlake, IL starting a trip to Gary, IN to swap trailers out.  Dropping one trailer with problems at the yard and picking up another.

Broadcast ends at 10:14 CST as we arrive at the yard for drop and hook.

Continue our trip to shipper now that we have made the switch at 11:10 CST.

Stop at the Loves in Gary, IN 11:22 CST to top off the refer tank and get some fresh coffee.  Got to watch the “fuel island shuffle”.

We arrived at the shipper at 12:58 CST with BRS advising that trailer should  be ready as it should have been done by 8:00 CST.  Had a little confusion as the spot BRS was supposed to drop the empty had another trailer there, he dropped the trailer close by and notified personnel in the yard.

As we left the shipper, BRS strongly suspected that we were overweight on the drives given the way the trailer was handling and the truck on board scale, however he let the road crew know that shipper will require a CAT scale certified scale ticket in order to get the load adjusted.  So off we go to the nearest scale.

We arrive 44 miles later in Rochelle, IL at the Loves CAT scale, 14:43 CST.  Yes, BRS suspicions are correct, we are more than 3,000 over the the drives.  He lets us know that this is too much to overcome by adjusting the 5th wheel and the tandems are already as far forward as possible. So, back to the shipper to get reworked.

By 16:06 CST we are back in dock at shipper.  They will get to this later tonight.  So trailer is left for the night, and BRS leaves, Bobtail Bob to find parking for the night.  He will return in the morning.

Numbers:   “Close by” miles km to shipper.  We covered  214 miles 344 km rolling out of Illinois, into Indiana, then back into Illinois.

Clocks: 5:07 hours on 11 hr,  5:49 hours on 14 hr,  51:04 hours on 70 hr.  Do not gain back hours tomorrow morning.

No alarm clock ⏰ tomorrow.   BRS will call shipper before leaving to pick up the reworked trailer.  Choose the BRT YouTube channel alarm bell to receive notifications for the start of our broadcast.
