Big Rig Steve officially on nine days of off time as of 10:27 CDT, arriving safely back at BRT world headquarters to end the third season of Bigrigtravels 2023.

Big Rig Travels broadcast day began earlier than normal for live viewers. Yes, also earlier than BRS prefers to start the day, but the prize today is getting home. 3:25 CDT at the TA in Gary, Indiana with coffee for the road. BRS said, “Oh man, yes, too early “. Yep, another alarm clock ⏰ night in the Blue Comet, second time in the last two days.
We all know what that means, not much rest for Steve as all night is spent waking up to check the on the time and worrying about over sleeping and being late to delivery. We surely enjoy all the days of the month where it is stated “no alarm clock tomorrow morning!” much better.
We rolled out onto a good, old big road I-80 towards Illinois. Yes, the earlier morning start was enjoyed by many across the world to enjoy viewing BRT much earlier in their day. BRT RC members such as Moderator John 259 and M A Sooty (ie Snoopy on the dog house icon) both from the UK – Carlos Toquero-Leudimin from Spain, Patrick Insulani from Amsterdam, Netherlands and JJ Sillipurkki (2 moderators for Germany Jens), Raja in India to Ethyn The Gaming Guy in Indiana USA , all watching Steve’s early morning drive.
Welcome to Illinois, 3:42 CST shortly afterwards we went past the familiar BRT way point, the water tower in Alsip, IL on I-294.
Near Elmhurst, IL. 4:17 CDT we exited on to I-290 then Hwy 64 local road in North Lake, IL. We went past a stopped police cruiser that began to follow BRS and of course we were driving perfect, as always, so following ended. Maybe they were just trying to get on the BRT broadcast.
Steve advised at 4:29 CDT, as we arrived near the receiver, that appointment is 5:00 CDT live unload at Melrose Park, IL . The “last time we were here it was 4 1/2 hours to get to dock door and 1 1/2-2 hours for unloading. So hopes are low for a quick unload”. BRS then stated “It’s been Fun, it’s been Real! But it’s Not been real Fun” at 3:30 in the morning and off Steve went.
BRT broadcast resumed at 8:37 CDT and as BRS would say (not bad, we did pretty good). Yes, we were homeward bound on backroads. Yes, Steve’s furry friends (Sally, Orangey, Stitch, Arlo & Nellie) need to start getting ready for BRS grand return.
Near Frontier Park at 8:50 CDT, BRS points out at a stop, “Four signs say No Left turns”.
Near Schiller Park, IL at 8:54 CDT, back on to I-294. It was at this time that Steve mentioned that he needed to share the secret that he’d mentioned yesterday. He would reveal it today. BRS said “so do you want the good news and the bad news, or the bad news and the good news”. Wait for it, yes, wait for it …. yes, in BRS fashion we had to wait awhile longer.
Near Rosemont, IL we rolled back on to the good, old big road of I-90 headed towards Belvidere, IL as we past the end of the airport, BRS pointed out planes on approach.
While on the big road, BRS said “I have been avoiding telling the crew this: yes, freight is slow and we need to take care of stuff, so we have nine days off time. We may do a premier and possibly live broadcast from the studio, but no guarantee. Weather is finally going to be good during off time at home”. ️
Loves in Hampshire, IL at 9:34 CDT was last stop for refer tank fuel and Loves coffee.
Rolled on by taking backroads from the Loves to Belvidere through the familiar communities, BRS describing them along the way.
Numbers: We covered the advertised approximate 114 miles 183 km rolling out of Indiana through Chicago suburbs areas to northern Illinois including delivery today. Clocks none of them are important as we will reset them all on off time to full hours available.
We covered a lot of the USA lower 48 this third season. Hopefully you all enjoyed and Big Rig Steve appreciates each and every one of you for riding along and sharing the trip on the longest running road trip ever.
As BRS would say “if it’s nice outside where you are, get outside and enjoy”.
Big Rig Travels tentative return is Monday April 17th (as always return is subject change, could even be later in the day if freight is not available or possibly a day later if need be).
