Daily Summary for 12/10/2024

Early, short day, turns into a long day

Big Rig Travels broadcast day began at 9:40 am EST at the BP truck stop in London, Kentucky.  It is 53 degrees and cloudy.  Steve advised it only too 56 minutes to get unloaded this morning, so we were back here at 3:45 am.  We headed out to the trailer washout at 9:53 am.  Started our trip to the shipper near Mount Sterling, KY, a preloaded trailer which is scheduled for pick up on Wednesday morning 12/11 at 11:00 am.

Love’s stop at Richmond, KY, fuel for the Blue Comet and refer tank at 11:02 am.

Arrival at shipper at 12:04 pm.  We check in to drop our empty trailer.  Steve educates the road crew on the professional courtesy of how to drop a trailer. Our next trailer is currently not ready.  We Bobtail Bob to the Pilot in Mt. Sterling and find safe parking at 12:23 pm with a fuel island view.  A watch party starts.

Steve goes over the numbers, even though he didn’t know if we were done for the day.  2 miles to the shipper, we covered 96 miles today in KY including a delivery.  And, while he is doing this, he gets a call that his load is now ready, so he heads back to the shipper and arrived by 12:36 pm.

Status changed to “on time to delivery” at 1:05 pm, our trip starting a day early.  Back at the Pilot, at 1:07 pm for a mass-weigh check.  Steve makes a small adjustment to the trailer tandems, prior to starting our trip to Henderson, North Carolina.

“All right, who ordered all this rain?” at 1:47 pm near Morehead, KY.

Welcome to West Virginia at 2:34 pm near Kenova, where sunshine has found us.

A train sighting at 3:27 pm near Nitro, WV as we approach the Pilot mess of backed up semis trying to get in and out of the truck stop.  “I would have never stopped here, had I known this.”

He approaches the East River tunnel near Bluefeld, WV at 6:19 pm.  As we exit, at 6:21 pm we enter Virginia on I-77 near Rocky Gap.

Another untimely mass-weigh station, we are called in at the end of a long line at 6:45 pm near Bland, VA.  No issues.

Enter the Big Walker Mountain tunnel at 6:53 pm near Wytheville, VA.

We finally find safe parking at the Flying J in Wytheville, VA after checking several other places that are full, at 7:10 pm.

Numbers:  202 miles to receiver, a live unload on Thursday 12/12 at 5:45 pm.  There is no early delivery option.  We covered approximately 366 miles including a delivery and a preloaded trailer pick up rolling out of Kentucky, through West Virginia into Virginia.

Clocks: 2:50 hours on 11 hr,  1:25 hours on 14 hr,  0:05 hours on 70 hr.  Gain back 10:35 hours tomorrow morning.
