Gary, IN to Dwight, IL
Big Rig Travels day began at 1:55 EDT. It is 39 degrees and overcast, leaving the yard near Gary, IN. “Alright, everything is messed up. They changed the trip on us.” The previous trip that was scheduled to go to Onley, IL when Steve went to hook up to it early this morning, the refer was not working. It ended up in the shop and they were currently working on it. So, they cancelled us off of that trip and a new trip was a preload from the Gary yard, going to Wilmington, IL, a 7:00 pm live unload appointment. “We have five hours to get to Wilmington.” This will be the last official cargo revenue trip for us. Steve noted, that he was supposed to be off today. Had to cancel a dental appointment for tomorrow. One of the added frustrations of this type of career.
Love’s stop at 2:13 pm for fuel for the Blue Comet. It was chaos trying to get out of there. Steve was glad would never need to come back here. We acquired 80 gallons towards May points status.
Welcome to Illinois near Lansing at 2:54 pm.
Arrival at the receiver at 3:54 pm to check in early. We needed to exit out and return at appointment time so went to the nearby Petro and found free parking at 4:07 pm.
Steve updated his career miles at this point. 2,172,023.
Returned to the receiver at had the trailer backed into a dock door at 7:05 pm, then did the required trailer disconnect and parked across the lot to wait for the green light.
Green light finally appears at 8:27 pm, Steve had spent the time waiting talking with the road crew. Many members that hadn’t been seen for some time had been chatting.
Night time camera is activated at 8:37 pm, delivery was complete. We are starting our trip home to Danville, IL.
On the way, Steve noted that this was his last delivery and it didn’t feel quite right. He also noted his first pick up in his career was at Coca Cola in Dallas, TX delivering to Houston, TX and the fact that he was so surprised that they would let him drive all that in the truck all alone.
Love’s stop at 9:09 pm near Dwight, IL with a fuel island view after a parking spot was left for us. We will continue tomorrow morning to Danville, IL. Upcoming trip to pick up the RV on Friday morning and then returning the Blue Comet on Monday.
